Fine Arts and Creative Writing Scholarship

The purpose of the Donald Callen Freed & Larry Paul Ebmeier Fine Arts and Creative Writing Scholarship is to provide financial support to UNL undergraduate students pursuing a major in either the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts at UNL, or the Department of English with a focus in Creative Writing, who are members of a recognized student organization whose purpose is to support LGBTQA+ students or have been involved at the LGBTQA+ Center at UNL. Applicants must demonstrate integrity and engagement with the LGBTQA+ community. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate financial need as defined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Recipients must attend UNL during the academic year that the scholarship is provided. Applicants must submit a completed application with the required supporting materials and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5.

The scholarship will be $1,000.00 with a tuition credit of $500.00 being applied each semester (fall and spring) toward the recipient’s centralized billing account. The student will be required to carry a minimum of 12 hours per semester in which the scholarship is provided. Recipients’ names will not be kept confidential as the recipient’s name is included in announcements about the scholarship.

Application and supporting material for the scholarship are to be submitted by March 15. The scholarship will be awarded for the upcoming academic year. Information, except for the recipient’s name, will be kept strictly confidential.

The recipient will be notified by the beginning of April, and recognized and presented a certificate at Lavender Graduation. All applicants will be notified of results. Lavender Graduation is held during 14th week on Thursday between 5 to 7 p.m.
