Lavender Graduation is a special graduation ceremony that honors the achievements of graduating LGBTQA+ students on campus. If you are graduating from an undergraduate or graduate program in May, August, or December of this year, apply to participate in the ceremony!
Lavender Graduation is hosted by the Gender and Sexuality Center, the Chancellor’s Commission on the Status of Gender and Sexual Identities, the Pride Alumni Network, and the Chancellor’s Office. Our goal is to provide a time to recognize the success in our community.
Attend the event and bring your friends to help celebrate! All members of the UNL community, family, and friends are invited!
The program includes:
- Rainbow tassels for graduates to wear at undergraduate and graduate graduation
- Lavender ropes for graduates that gave significant contributions to the LGBTQA+ community on campus
- Lavender Graduation certificates
- Awarding the Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Contributions to the GLBT Community
- Recognizing the recipients of the Drs. Crompton & Diaz-Perdomo Scholarship, the Fredrickson-Formanek Scholarship, and the Roland Leavitt and Shawn Leavitt Family Scholarship
- Advocate appreciation (see more below)
- Positive messages from UNL faculty, staff, administrators, students, and alumni
- Refreshments to share with family, friends, and well-wishers
Advocate Appreciation
Lavender Graduates are encouraged to complete the Advocate Appreciation section within their application to recognize up to 3 people. Advocates are UNL faculty and staff who were proactive in providing support and/or guidance to LGBTQA+ students, and who made a significant impact on their academic achievements. We invite each person to the reception and acknowledge their contribution with a certificate.
